Two days including one night in the wilderness of Dartmoor….. That is the time limit you would have to get around the 35-55 mile route (pending your age). Its not even compulsory to change your undies!
The Ten Tors expedition is open to teams of six (male/female/mixed) from schools, youth organisations (Scouts, Guides, Youth Clubs) and Service cadets. An organisation may apply to enter up to three teams in any combination of the three categories based on distance….. 14-15yrs = 35 miles, 16-17yrs = 45 miles, 17-19yrs = 55 miles.
The expedition is in May and begins at 07:00 on the Saturday, and in order to qualify for an award, teams must have crossed the finish line by 17:00 on Sunday.
Those teams that complete the expedition receive a certificate recording the achievement – and each team member receives a Ten Tors Medal.
Excellent fun. Great teamwork experience. The views are said to be ‘not bad’. There is no roof or windows….. so you are exposed to the elements!! Because of this, there are a few rules and regs you need to know to be viable and prepared….. so check out and research more info:
